New School Year Picnic
All Programs – third Saturday in September, 11 am – 1 pm, tbd public park in San Francisco. Slather on the sunscreen and load up the folding chairs and blankets for this family frolic! At this potluck event KMS kids will enjoy the bouncy house, a visit from Bubble 07, AND a staff/parent hootenany (kazoos optional, but all instruments encouraged). Please plan to help with clean-up, especially as SF parks have a pack-trash-out policy consistent with KMS practice. Sign-ups will be available in the cubby prior to the event.
Back to School Night
All Programs – first Tuesday in October, 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. This is a night where the teachers will share the implementation of the core values in their program with you the parents. We remind you that this is a parents only event. Below is a basic schedule. Look for more information in individual program newsletters.
5:30-6:30 Drop In “Open House” invitation to notice all our programs
This will be a time when the whole school is open and parents are encouraged to visit all programs. Please bring an hors d’oeuvre to share.
6:30-8:00 Individual Program Time
Each program will use this time to guide parents through an exploration of a day in the life of a KMS child.
All Programs – Halloween in October, 9 am – 11:30 am. Join us on the yard at 8:50am where we will line up for our annual Halloween Parade around the block. The Parade will start promptly at 9:00am. From 9:45-11:30am, we will have Halloween Festivities, including our wonderful garden Pumpkin Patch, The Monster Mash, and much more! Have your child arrive to school in a comfortable and safe costume for walking -parents are welcome to change them into regular clothes at the end of the parade. Please be advised that costume accessories (such as wands and wings) are difficult to pack and keep track of. If your child will be using accessories, please plan to take them home after the morning festivities.
International Feast Day
All Programs – the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in November, 10 am – 12:30 pm. A potluck event celebrating our diversity. Annually, the event includes a few cultural performances to honor and share our International heritages.- it could be a song, a dance, a story, anything that represents a certain culture of the world. If you have any ideas or know of anyone who would like to perform, please let KMS Office know by November 15th. Gracias! Salamat! Grazie! Dank u! Danke! Obrigado! 100th Day of School Party
Elementary Program – 100th day of school in February, 10 am – Parents Welcome! Come in a homemade costume that reflects the number 100. Invent a homemade game that involves numbers and math fun. Board games, beanbag tosses, etc have been popular in the past.
Garden Fit Day
All Programs – Second Saturday in April, 9 am – 1 pm. This is a fun day where we work together meet other KMS families and the kids get to help in beautifying our outdoor spaces! Sign-ups will be available in the cubby prior to the event.
All Programs – Spring, date, time & location tbd. Art Fest is our annual fundraiser that benefits the Katherine Michiels School Scholarship Fund and commitment to KMS having an economically diverse community. Art Fest is for everyone to join together for a celebration filled with student performances, raffle prizes, and fellowship amongst our KMS community. For more information stay tuned. Sign-ups will be available in the cubby prior to the event.
All Programs – third Wednesday in May, 8 am – 9:30 am. The Family Day celebration is inclusive to all types of families. This day is to celebrate all of us! It’s a highly anticipated event for the kids and teachers. It’s a time for all of us to meet and mingle and enjoy this special time to connect your child’s home and school! We are all truly one big family and want to show our appreciation to all of you! Family is the people who love you most!
Parent Coffee Hour
All Programs (adults only) – first Friday of the month October through June. The KMS parent coffee hour is a social gathering to build community among KMS families. Coffee and baked goods are served in the front of the school. Donations are gratefully accepted to help support KMS programs. We encourage all families interested in hosting one of the KMS Coffee Hours to please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
